Langille said the Northwood tragedy that occurred during the first wave of the pandemic served to highlight the importance of this from a disease and infection control perspective. Langille said he believes that all long-term care residents deserve the dignity of individual rooms. He said helping seniors is particularly important to him. Having worked for more than two decades as a personal caregiver, Langille said he’s concerned with the situation in long-term care and with health care in general in Nova Scotia.

Langille said the province can’t find its way out of the COVID-19 pandemic and back to economic prosperity through austerity or cutting and slashing funding for essential government programs. He said government-run institutions such as schools, hospitals and long-term care homes - and the people working within these institutions - need adequate, consistent provincial funding.

He pointed out several examples of deteriorating roads that he is aware of, some of which he would consider unsafe for residents, school buses and emergency responders. Langille said he believes that the current Liberal government has put a lot of important matters on the backburner, the maintenance of roads and other infrastructure in Kings West being among them.

“When you look at our roads, they’re crumbling around us.” “I think there are a lot of issues that are going on,” he said. He said times are changing and he thinks the party is at a pivotal point in its history now, with a real opportunity to affect change for the better. Langille said the NDP has been the political party he has supported over the years and really connects with, both in terms of principles and philosophy. He said he doesn’t have all the answers as a political candidate, but he is willing to work with people to help them find answers. Langille said he has lived in Kings County his entire life and it’s important to him to put forth strong political representation so that communities and residents in Kings West don’t get lost in the shuffle.
